Flanders – Battlefields

Information

The battles which took place in Flanders and the Somme from 1914 to 1918 were a massive scale and left countless thousands dead. Our tour is based near Ypres, perhaps the war’s most famous site, and is well paced for touring Flanders and the Somme.

Daily Itinerary

Day 1
We travel from West Wales to Folkeston, crossing the channel to Calais. Continue along the coast past Dunkerque, De Panne and Veurne, to arrive at our hotel in late Ypres late afternoon.

Day 2
Today, we include a local guide for a full day excursion to the Somme. See the historical museum at Peronne, The Lochnagar Crater, The Thiepval Visitor Centre and Memorial and Newfoundland Park. After a sobering but rewarding day, re-join the coach and return Ypres in time for dinner.

Day 3
Ypres is a thriving historic town that was devestaetd during some of the bloodiest battles of 1917 and 1918. See the in Flanders Museum, the Menin Gate, and nearby Tyne Cot, the largest British War Cemetery. There will be a late evening meal one night for you to witness the daily Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate at 8pm.

Day 4
We travel via St. Omer to Calais, for the Eurotunnel to Folkestone, and our return journey to West Wales, with suitable refreshment stops en-route.
